The Benefits of Chiropractic For Wellness and Prevention

Brick chiropractor, Dr. Christopher Kawa, has as his main goal: to educate you on the benefits of holistic care (looking at the body as a whole) as a way to prevent illness and enhance the function of the body. He is not a “symptom or disease treater”, he is a functional specialist.

One of the main issues with healthcare these days is that it is centered around treating symptoms, not creating wellness. Wellness is about getting your body to function better so that you can actually heal. But sadly, most people only give their health a second thought when they feel bad and then attempt to just cover up their symptoms without much regard to what is actually causing their problem. Most of modern medicine operates in this fashion.

Traditional medicine involves the use of medications, injections or surgeries to address health problems. But these methods are usually just temporary because they only eliminate one symptom, while neglecting and often disrupting the rest of the body. And most of the time the costs and risks of side effects outweigh the benefits; unless of course it’s an emergency or life threatening event.

Creating Wellness

When you’re sick or you’re in pain, you want answers and you want the symptom eliminated. But the problem is that the practice of medicine is broken up into specialties and while a medical doctor might be well versed in his or her specialty, they often do not consider the “whole” body and how everything interacts. After all, you couldn’t possibly expect one person to know everything there is to know about the entire body… it’s too complex. The body is not made up of a bunch of unrelated parts. It all functions together and the only way to become “truly healthy” is to make sure all of the parts are functioning properly.

It is impossible to heal from any condition or disease unless you address the cause, and very rarely is the root cause of a disease found by examining the individual parts. The only way to really heal or to feel good is to improve the function of the whole body. This involves getting the right nutrition, being at the optimal weight, reducing stress, exercising and making sure there is no interference to nerve function by regularly seeing a chiropractor. Chiropractic care allows the master control system of the body, the nervous system, to function better, thereby making you healthier overall. Chiropractors are the ONLY health professionals trained to do this.

Since the spinal cord and spinal nerves are the connection between your brain and your body parts, it is imperative that there be no stress on this amazing network of nerves. Each vertebra protects this delicate nerve tissue. However, the average person has slight mis-alignments or fixations (stuck joints) that are interfering or disrupting their nerve supply. This will always lead to malfunction somewhere in the body. Unfortunately, most people are not aware of these problems because most of the time there are no symptoms. And if symptoms do show up, it’s usually years later after much joint damage and degeneration has occurred.

It is truly amazing how many times patients have come into my office after seeing a handful of physicians and are still experiencing the same symptoms and pains.
